Join the Dane County Sheriff’s Office for our 4th Annual Veterans’ Shoot at the Dane County Training Center in Waunakee, Wisconsin. This event is open to military veterans only and brings together veterans of all ages for shooting, fellowship, food, and local resources.

Social Event, Resource Fair, and Ceremony
Veterans may attend the social event, resource fair, and ceremony without registering. More than 15 Dane County veteran-focused resources will be available. Free refreshments, snacks, and a catered lunch from Mission BBQ will be provided. A short ceremony will begin at 12:00 p.m. after the shooting events conclude. Veterans will also receive a door prize ticket upon arrival, and prizes will be awarded after the ceremony, including a rifle.
Open Shoot or Competition Shoot
Veterans who want to participate in the Open Shoot or Competition Shoot must register in advance. Shooting participants must bring their own rifle and ammunition. This is a rifle-only event designed for modern military-style rifles. Please leave all other firearms at home. Eye and ear protection will be available if needed. During the Open Shoot, veterans may sign up for one 30-minute range slot. Dane County Sheriff’s Office deputies will be on the range to assist with safety and zeroing. A limited number of rifles may also be available to try with support from event partners. The Competition Shoot will also use 30-minute time slots and will be scored in three categories:
Accommodations can be made for veterans with disabilities if requested in advance. Limited rifles and optics may be available for competition participants who request them ahead of time.
New for 2026: First-place winners in all categories from the 2025 Veterans’ Shoot are not eligible to win again for two years after their winning year.
