Marine Corps Veteran and Hire Our Heroes founder Dan Caporale created National Hire a Veteran Day in 2017 as a call to action for hiring companies, and also to encourage veteran job applicants.

HOW TO CELEBRATE HIRE A VETERAN DAY? 

• Make a renewed commitment to become more military-focused in your hiring practices. 
• Learn something new about the different services and the training that is received. 
• Talk to current Veterans or Military-Connected employees within your workforce. Ask them if your culture is military-friendly. What could be done to improve your environment to attract more high-quality talent?

1. Hiring veterans and military-connected talent is good for business

   Research shows veterans remain with their initial company 8.3% longer than non-veterans.

2. Veterans are better hires

   The above-mentioned studies have also shown that veterans are 160% more likely to have a graduate degree or higher. They also have more than technical skills such as planning, organization, critical thinking, and managing others.

3. 33% of veterans and 21% of MIL spouses are underemployed 

   A recent LinkedIn study points out that almost 33% of veterans do not have enough paid work or are not doing work that makes full use of a person’s skills and abilities

4. You get a little money back

   Hiring a veteran not only means you get a dedicated high-quality, capable employee - companies are also eligible for some work opportunity tax credits through 2025.

5. America has a lot of veterans
