About
As a 501(c)3 organization, our mission is to train rescued and donated dogs and place them with veterans who have been diagnosed with post-combat stress or anxiety. There is no cost for a veteran to receive a trained dog, and they gain a constant companion to help them cope with the unique challenges of their everyday life.
Dogs2DogTags Program and Services:
-We train and place service and support dogs with veterans diagnosed with post-traumatic stress or anxiety. There is no cost for a veteran to receive a dog.
-Once a dog is placed, we provide ongoing free training towards service dog certification for each veteran with their new canine companion.
-Veterans who receive a dog also receive free dog supplies, food, medications, and veterinary care for one year following placement.
-We provide free dog training for any veteran who owns their own dog and wants to pursue service dog or therapy dog certification.
-Veterans at risk of losing their dog due financial hardships can apply for a grant through our Thomas Z. Spitzer Angel Fund. Eligible veterans can receive up to $1,000 annually to help pay for their dog's surgery, medication, food, etc.
Veterans who participated in our program reported the following:
-Ability to cope better with symptoms of post-traumatic stress
-Reduced anxiety
-Restored trust and confidence
-Strengthened family relationships
-Increased exercise
-A reason to live
